The Promo Video Every Booked Musician Has

A booking-grade promo video is 60–90 seconds, shows two live moments cut together (peak dancefloor + intimate acoustic), has audio recorded off the desk (not a phone mic), and ends with your name, city and booking email on screen.

The 60–90 second rule

Bookers watch the first 15 seconds. If it holds, they watch to 60. Almost none watch past 90. Cut ruthlessly.

Two shots that convert

  • Peak-energy dancefloor with visible crowd reaction
  • Intimate acoustic moment (drinks reception, ceremony)

Show both. Bookers need to know you can do the loud AND the quiet moment. Videos that only show the peak get ruled out for weddings.

Sound is 80% of the impression

Record audio off the desk (line out from the PA) and sync it in the edit. Phone mic on a live gig sounds terrible and undoes everything else.

End card essentials

  • Act name
  • City / travel range
  • Booking email or profile link
"If a booker has to open Google to find you after the video, you've lost them."

FAQ

Frequently asked

How long should a promo video be?
60–90 seconds. Anything longer and you lose most bookers.
Do I need a professional videographer?
For the flagship reel, yes — £400–£1,500 buys a great cut. Behind-the-scenes phone content is fine as supporting media.
Should the video be on YouTube or hosted?
Both. YouTube for SEO, direct upload to your marketplace profile for autoplay.
What music should I use?
Only your own performance. Backing tracks with commercial recordings get muted or blocked and hurt trust.
How often should I refresh it?
Every 12–18 months, or when your line-up or setlist changes materially.
