Two 45s is the default
Nearly every UK function band plays two 45-minute sets with a DJ or playlist in between. Ask for a third set as an add-on rather than a longer single set — bands play sharper with a break.
What the fee usually covers
- Performance (typically 2×45 min)
- Own PA and lighting suitable for up to 150 guests
- Setup, soundcheck, breakdown
- DJ set / iPod between and after live sets
- Travel within a set radius
What it usually doesn't cover: overtime, extra musicians, meals, accommodation for late finishes, or oversized PA for 200+ guests.
Fee ranges (UK, 2026)
- 3-piece acoustic / duo: £700–£1,800
- 4-piece function band: £1,500–£3,500
- 6–8 piece with brass: £3,000–£6,500
- Named / tribute headliner: £5,000–£25,000+
The venue checklist to send the band
- Stage size (or floor space) and ceiling height
- Power — how many 13A sockets on the stage
- Load-in access and parking
- Sound limiter (Y/N and dB threshold)
- Curfew and any decibel restrictions
Sound limiters kill live bands
"If the venue has a 90dB limiter, a full drum kit will trip it. Ask before you book."
For limited venues, choose an electronic kit or an acoustic-forward lineup. A professional band will tell you honestly — see our guide on finding the perfect live act.
